The Backstory
Not many Kiwis know their whakapapa right back to its roots but Mike Bailey is proud of the fact his family have been small business owners since they first arrived in New Zealand way back in 1843.
Growing up in Napier with a family business that specialised in aluminium fabrication and glazing, it was almost inevitable that Mike would strike out on his own in a similar field.
He did this in Melbourne, establishing one of the city’s leading companies for structural glazed curtain walls, glass roofs, facades and aluminium cladding on commercial high rise buildings.
Returning to Hawke’s Bay to raise their family after a decade developing expertise in this highly specialised sector, Mike and wife and fellow AFC Managing Director, Mel, identified a gap in the market for specialist architectural facade applications. As the Company and kids grew, the business HQ shifted to Wellington.
The result a decade later is a team of highly trained facade specialists who share Mike and Mel’s passion for challenging work, done well.
The AFC team seek out work that sits at the cutting edge of design and innovation and take pride in knowing many of the projects they work on become the rock star buildings across Wellington, Hawke’s Bay and the lower/central North Island.
Mike and Mel now lead growth and projects from their two branches in Wellington and Hawke’s Bay. Hands-on, daily oversight of projects helps the Company live its values of adaptability and quality every single day, for every single job.
